Twin Talk: The Message
Welcome! My name is Abbie Hoskins. I am a twin sister to Nick Hoskins, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. My life has been a whirlwind of challenges, personally and family related. Being affected by autism to any capacity comes with a handful of battles, but it also involves a sense of joy that not a lot of people get to experience, or hear about. My whole life, I have wanted to do my part to help spread autism awareness, but in my own style. I had thousands of ideas, but none that I would truly be proud of or that hadn’t already been done. In the media, you usually only see sob stories, or psychologically informative depictions of the autism spectrum. I usually cope with my emotions through humor, which is what I portray a sense of in every story I write. Autism is not easy, and I have felt as though a lot of focus and societal admiration is given to the families as a whole, without a true understanding of what each individual goes through. This being said, it is not often that you see sibling awareness credited for. My goal is to share stories about my life alongside my brother in a lighthearted manner, while expressing raw emotions I, and many of you reading this, probably have faced. I want to spread autism awareness in a unique way that I am passionate about, and create a safe space for any sibling, parent, or person with autism to feel heard by someone who gets it.
